I’ve just returned from a truly amazing trip on Rovos Rail’s Pride of Africa. This has to be one of the most luxurious train trips of the world (and the train buffs on the trip would nod vigorously in agreement!) It took 15 days to meander from Dar es Salaam (where I stayed at the truly lovely Oyster Bay Hotel), through Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe, stopping for two nights at Victoria Falls, then heading into Botswana and the north-west of South Africa at the Tau Game Lodge in Madikwe Reserve for two days. It all ended in Cape Town with a two restful nights at the Cape Grace and a slap-up high tea at the Mount Nelson Hotel. trip.
