Cape Town’s beloved Lady Anne Barnard built a peaceful country cottage set among vineyards in 1799.
The original home is still there but has been renovated and developed into the 207-room luxury Vineyard hotel. I have fond memories of growing up near the Vineyard in Newlands and visiting it often with my parents.
This beautiful spot set in its gorgeous 3.5-hectare gardens is on the eastern slopes of Table Mountain – the “other” side of the mountain from the city – but should never be neglected by tourists.
